TEAM EI Colorado Vision: Every child and family served by EI Colorado has access to a primary provider in addition to a diverse team of early interventionists that possess expertise to build family capacity to support the child in everyday learning
Reminder! A teaming meeting is a regularly scheduled formal meeting that includes the entire child and family’s early intervention team. During teaming meetings, the team will use a coaching interaction style to collaborate, problem-solve, and build each other’s capacity. The prompts below should be used if you support the primary provider after they have shared their needs/questions.
Coaching Prompts for Team Meetings
What are the family’s current priorities? Have they changed at all? Have you asked the family about them?
What specific routines or activities is the family seeking additional support for?
What strategies have been effective for this family, and how can we build on them?
What has the family tried so far, and what outcomes have we seen?
What would the family say if you asked them…?
How did it feel when that happened?
How can we adapt our support to fit within the family’s daily routines?
What next steps do we need to take as a team to support this family?
What additional resources may we need to better meet the family’s needs?
What assumptions are we making about this family, and how can we challenge those assumptions?
How are we empowering the family to take the lead in their child’s development?
To close the meeting, always ask:
Do you feel like your questions/needs were answered/met? What do you still need to support this family?
When in doubt, remember…
Stick to open-ended questions (don’t get stuck with one-word, yes/no answers!)
Give ample time for a response
