Article summary

Notes:

  • In July of 2022, the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) took over the responsibility of evaluations for children referred to Early Intervention (it was previously administered by the Department of Education)

    • Slide 4.2.1 – Step 1 of Identification and Referral, the initial Service Coordinator is an EI Colorado Care Navigator for the programs that do not do their own intake. EI Colorado does not do post-referral screening

    • Slide 4.2.1 - Step 3 – EI Evaluation Entities conduct the evaluation and determine eligibility. They talk to the family about eligibility either at the evaluation appointment or within 24 hours. The Care Navigator will then send the results to the family for review and to sign that they understand the results and have received their procedural safeguards

  • IFSP Form (slide 4.2.2)– the current form looks a little different than the form shown in this training. The most current form may be found under “forms” at eicolorado.org

  • Slide 4.3.5 – Referral and Release Form – this form is still available, but there is also now an online referral form, which may be an easier and faster way for EI Colorado to receive the information

  • Videos about eligibility determination were developed based on a previous definition of significant delay. This is referenced on slides 4.5.6 and 4.5.8

Quiz Question Clarification: One quiz question is “Who is responsible for determining eligibility for early intervention?” Currently, it is the Evaluation Entity providers that determine eligibility, and then this is followed up by the EI Colorado Care Navigators. However, the correct answer to the question based on the content presented in the Module is: The service coordinator, as a representative of the CCB

Time: This module will take approximately 90 minutes to complete
